  • “Dr. Scott Smith did surgery on my severely broken wrist after a person pulled right in front of me and my motorcycle. After crashing into the car, I went sailing through the air. Dr. Scott Smith did a tremendous job at putting my wrist back together, which is now back to full motion. Also, to the terrific staff at 5 East Trauma/Orthopedic Wing and Supervisor Allison. • “From day one Dr. Smith believed that we together could save my leg instead of having to amputate it. It took a long time and a lot of surgeries, but I was able to keep my leg and walk again. He did an outstanding job and I will always be grateful for his determination to save my leg. ”

  • “Thanks to my care at UOS, I can return to hiking and backpacking. Five months after surgery to repair a badly broken ankle, which occurred while I was in Maryland, I developed an infection. The surgeon in Maryland advised that another surgery was required to remove the metal screws and plates and to clean out the infection, and then a period of antibiotics. Although he said he would do the surgery he said it would require several visits. Due the distance from my home he suggested I get it done in Knoxville. The orthopaedic group I and my family had used for years refused to see me, as did several other orthopaedic surgeons in town. My wife was in tears. I could loose my lower leg and no surgeon wanted to follow another surgeon's work. Dr. Smith agreed immediately to see me and following surgery in April, and physical therapy, I now look forward to more days enjoying the beautiful outdoors on my own "two" feet. Dr. Smith and his staff have been fantastic. His skill and medical staff's attitude removed so much concern from me and my wife. God bless them.”

  • “Thanks to my care at UOS, I can... once again hike the Appalachian Trail! Please get this picture to Dr Scott T Smith and Jamie Cross. This is me on Sept 29, 2016 standing on Myrtle Point, one of the sub peaks of Mt LeConte. Dr Smith was on duty in the trauma unit the day of my car accident in December of 2013. He and the team saved my life. During his ongoing care, he reconstructed the top and bottom portion of my right femur. I can now walk without a limp and feel blessed to have each and every day. Thank you!”
